Watford opposed to playing in neutral venues as part of Project Restart

Watford have become the latest club to voice their opposition to the Premier League's Project Restart.
Under Project Restart proposals, the remaining 92 fixtures in the 2019/20 Premier League season will be played behind closed doors at eight-10 neutral venues.
That is considered the most appropriate number of venues that will be granted safety certificates (Sports Grounds Safety Authority) and police approval
However, Brighton and Aston Villa publicly stated their opposition to the proposals, as they believe giving up home advantage could affect their chances of staying up and compromise the integrity of the competition.

Scott Duxbury says the interests of Premier League clubs are not always in alignment
Scott Duxbury says the interests of Premier League clubs are not always in alignment

Watford chief executive Scott Duxbury echoed those concerns, insisting the Premier League has a "duty of care" to all its clubs.

"There is no altruism in the Premier League," wrote Duxbury in The Times.

"There are 20 different vested interests which sometimes align but more often than not work purely to protect each individual club.

"That is why some clubs are happy to sign up to Project Restart because arguably there is only an upside in participating in this compromised format; it means Liverpool can win the title, other clubs can book their place in Europe next season or potentially fight their way up the table from a position of safety.

"But when at least six clubs - and I suspect more - are concerned about the clear downside and the devastating effects of playing in this kind of distorted nine-game mini-league, then I believe the Premier League has a duty of care to address those concerns.

"In the world of Covid-19, there is no such thing as an entirely safe environment wherever we play.

"The police also talk about fans flouting restrictions when football restarts and that this is a concern for the authorities, but I believe we would have more control over supporters playing at our own grounds."
Premier League shareholders will meet on Monday to decide how best to proceed.

That meeting was pushed back from Friday to allow time to consider the implications of Boris Johnson's address to the nation on Sunday on how the country is tackling the coronavirus pandemic and plans for lockdown moving forward.

Friday Night Horse Racing Tips for Cranbourne

Cranbourne horse racing tips

Race 1. (17:00) Do It For Dolly Maiden (1400m)

#4 – Kutayha @ $3.65 – Bet Now
Punters should always respect a Chris Waller-trained runner that has been well backed. The three-year-old is on debut and he hasn’t had a trial to prepare.
That could be a good sign and the son of Savabeel doesn’t have a superstar field to contend with on debut.
Follow the betting moves.

Race 2. (17:30) Ivan’s Pies Maiden (1400m)

#1 – Atypical @ $3.40 – Bet Now
Clinton McDonald lines up the four-year-old gelding that was beaten at odds of $1.67 on debut. However, we’re prepared to give him another chance.
The son of Pierro was coming off a 4.5-length trial win but after showing good barrier speed, he didn’t sustain the run.
Stick with him and the odds are better this time around.

Race 3. (18:00) R&C Asphalt Maiden (1600m)

#5 – La Pietra – Bet Now
La Pietra is coming off a tidy effort for third on this track and she could improve enough to win. The Robbie Griffiths-trained filly has shown glimpses of quality form throughout her career.
Having Craig Williams in the saddle will take her a long way and we’re expecting late money to come her way on the night.

Race 4. (18:30) O’Brien Real Estate Maiden (1200m)

#4 – Modulo – Bet Now
The four-year-old gelding made good ground when third at Seymour and he could return from a spell in fine order.
He hasn’t raced since September, but Damien Oliver is a key booking. He wouldn’t be riding unless the gelding was ready to fire.
It’s an open contest so punters should get nice odds.

Race 5. (19:00) Dirt Rock Civil BM64 (1200m)

#4 – Vici – Bet Now
Vici needed the run last start and we’re expecting a tidy effort this time around. The Wendy Kelly-trained gelding has two wins from nine starts and Cranbourne is a track that should suit nicely.
Punters should get a good price but the booking of Craig Williams could drive down the odds. However, the three-year-old is worth sticking with.

Race 6. (19:30) Peter and Lavella Darose BM64 (1200m)

#2 – Iscariot – Bet Now
Iscariot scored a win to kick off this campaign before running three consecutive second placings. The three-year-old has finished in the money in six of his seven starts and that’s a solid record.
Drawing barrier 11 could make it tricky over this distance but he has superior barrier speed to most in this race.
Keep him safe and each-way odds could be available.

Race 7. (20:00) Mercedes-Benz Mornington BM64 (1000m)

#11 – The Sisters – Bet Now
The Sisters brings in good form and although she hasn’t raced for over a year, she could show up here.
She last raced in April 2019, where she finished fifth at Sandown. She was good enough to win on debut and now that the tracks are wetter, she should be nicely suited.
Betting will indicate her chances.

Race 8. (20:30) De Bortoli Rose BM70 (1600m)

#7 – Cleo’s Poet – Bet Now
Cleo’s Poet hasn’t been too far behind a couple of nice types this season and he has improvement to come.
His winning strike rate isn’t the best, so punters are taking a risk, but with the risk comes juicy odds.
He runs well at this distance and he could cause an upset at odds.

Race 9. (21:00) Tab Long May We Play BM64 (1400m)

#9 – Here de Fox @ $6 – Bet Now
She scored a good win three back at Kilmore and although beaten twice since, her form matches up well with this field.
The daughter of Foxwedge is rarely too far away from the play and punters are getting good each-way odds this time around.
It’s an even field but she looks the best of them.

Bundesliga cleared to restart season on May 15 after government approval

The Bundesliga season will restart on May 15, the German football league has decided, after the government gave the green light on a return to action.
The government said the Bundesliga and second-tier 2. Bundesliga could re-start in the second half of May without spectators, adding that the German football league (DFL) would decide on the exact dates.

Football in Germany has been suspended since mid-March, with coronavirus having infected over 150,000 people in the country so far. Almost 6,300 people have died of the disease in Germany.
The league is the first of any of Europe's major leagues to be given clearance to resume playing, since the coronavirus pandemic took hold. Two of Germany's neighbours, the Netherlands and France, have ended their seasons.
Matches in Germany's top two divisions can take place later this month, without spectators.

Chancellor Angela Merkel says Bundesliga players and staff will not have to quarantine for 14 days because of the clubs' regular testing capacity.
"Testing is regular there, so the quarantine period is not set to 14 days," she said.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel confirms that the Bundesliga can resume playing this month, ending a two-month suspension caused by the coronavirus pandemic
Minister President of Bavaria, Markus Söder, accepts the decision to resume will be seen as controversial.
"We have agreed sensibly. We know that it is very controversial," he added.
"I know that those responsible in the clubs will do everything possible to comply with the regulations. But the players must also adhere to it."
The Bundesliga's General Assembly will be held in Frankfurt on Thursday to discuss the health and safety protocol to ensure the league's safe return. They are expected to decide on the start date and match calendar in that meeting.
The majority of Bundesliga clubs have nine matches left to play in this campaign - Eintracht Frankfurt and Werder Bremen have 10 - with leaders Bayern Munich four points ahead of Borussia Dortmund in second.
The league's potential return had been under scrutiny after Cologne reported three people at the club had tested positive for coronavirus last week and Hertha Berlin forward Salomon Kalou was suspended after ignoring social distancing measures at the club's training ground.

Former Chelsea player Kalou, 34, was seen shaking hands with his Hertha team-mates and interrupting a medical check-up of another.
Soder described the incident as an "own goal", saying: "The video by the Hertha BSC player there was already an own goal. The players have to stick to the requirements just like other citizens!"
On Monday, the German Football League (DFL) announced a total of 1,724 tests have been conducted on players and staff at the 36 first and second-tier sides in Germany since last Thursday, with 10 individuals returning positive coronavirus tests.
Following another round of testing, second division side Erzgebirge Aue has put its entire squad in self isolation after a member of staff tested positive for coronavirus.
Aue have not named the staff member involved but all players, coaches and backroom staff will stay at home ahead of more coronavirus testing on Thursday.

Bayern CEO: Football will help Germany cope

The resumption of the Bundesliga season will make weekends "easier for everyone" in Germany during the coronavirus pandemic, says Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
"FC Bayern feels great gratitude, satisfaction and a feeling of happiness. We've worked long and hard for this. With the green light from the politicians, we have the requirements to restart the league. That is an important step for the Bundesliga," he said.
"The Bavarian prime minister Markus Söder said that a weekend with Bundesliga is much more bearable than a weekend without. That sentence tells everything.
"We know, football isn't systemically important. But football has a meaning for society. When we start playing in the middle of May, those weekends will be easier for everyone."
