Our Sunday analysis: Dundee FC vs Celtic
Scottish Premiership, today 5th April 2026, set to kick-off 15:30 or 16:30 UK time at Dens Park / Kilmac Stadium

Dundee FC welcomes Celtic to the Kilmac Stadium at Dens Park today April 5th for a Scottish Premiership encounter with significant implications at both ends of the table.
Celtic sits at no 3 position in the standings with 61 points from 31 matches, still very much in the hunt for a fifth successive league title despite a tight race at the top. Martin O’Neill’s side have shown flashes of their usual quality but have also dropped points in recent weeks, including a frustrating recent derby experience in Dundee. A strong result would help them keep pressure on the top table leaders and maintain momentum heading into the final fixtures.

Dundee sits  eighth place with 32 points and a goal difference of -18. They are out of contention for the top-half Championship Round and are now focused on securing their position ahead of the split and the Relegation Round. Steven Pressley’s team have shown resilience at home at times this season, picking up valuable points against stronger opponents, though their recent form has been patchy with a narrow defeat in their last outing.

Tactically, Dundee are expected to set up compact and organized, aiming to stop Celtic’s attacking players and hit on the counter or through set-pieces. They often rely on a solid defensive block and quick transitions involving their midfield and forward line, hoping the passionate Dens Park crowd can lift them. Celtic, by contrast, will look to dominate possession and create overloads in wide areas and through the middle, using their technical quality and pace to break down a deep-lying defense. O’Neill’s men favor fluid attacking movements and will push high to regain the ball quickly.

On the injury front, Dundee face a blow with captain Clark Robertson rated a major doubt after suffering a setback in his recovery from a thigh injury. This could weaken their backline and leadership on the pitch. Celtic’s squad is also stretched, with several key players unavailable: goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel (shoulder), defenders Cameron Carter-Vickers (Achilles) and Alistair Johnston (hamstring), winger Jota (knee), and midfielder Arne Engels (thigh, though he has returned to training and could feature). Adam Montgomery and Callum Osmand are also sidelined. These absences force rotation and place extra responsibility on the likes of Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda, and top scorer Benjamin Nygren.

Head-to-head records shows a clear  dominance by Celtic, who have won the vast majority of their meetings against Dundee. In 33 previous encounters, Celtic claimed 27 victories with five draws and just one win for Dundee. However, this season has brought some surprises: Dundee managed a 2-0 home win earlier in the campaign, while Celtic edged a narrow 1-0 victory at Celtic Park. Recent games have occasionally been tighter than expected.
Key insights we believe Celtic remain strong favorites due to their superior squad depth and attacking options, even with injuries. They are 5 points behind league leaders rangers, so dropping points today will be a big blow for them.
Also Benjamin Nygren’s goal threat and the creativity of players like Yang Hyun-Jun and Daizen Maeda could prove decisive for them.
Dundee, will  focus on stopping any counter and staying disciplined to limit Celtic’s clear chances, and capitalizing on any defensive lapses or set-piece opportunities. Simon Murray remains their main attacking outlet with five league goals this term.
We are strongly backing Celtic to win today.
